The overlays are .png files that can be used in any photograph or art editing application. They are totally seamless and have no background or shadows. The white that you see on the product example pages is just there because the layers were merged and flattened. (all overlays are black with no background behind them and no shadows)

--Use them as pattern fills; over plain backgrounds-while changing your blend modes; you can style them with layer styles; use other plug-in filters on them; emboss or engrave them or even fill them with solid colors or patterns. --Because these overlays are seamless and 600x600 pixels, you can fill any size image (divisible by 600) by using your pattern fill tool or paint bucket and tapping the overlay inside with one click!
--MINI-TUT: Make sure your overlay is inserted/installed into your patterns, bucket or fill tool option. Set it for 100% or 50%-whatever works best! Using your ruler carefully as a guideline, tap/click a 1200 x 1200 pixels transparency blank exactly at 600 pixels height x 600 pixels width and it will still be seamless! The same applies for any blank image or background that is divisible by 600: 1200, 1800, 2400 pixels, etc. Always line up properly with your ruler before clicking the blank background to make sure the overlay stays seamless. (and it never hurts to check it afterwards to make sure!) Then you can proceed to style your overlay in any way you would like!
