Definition: SAKURA: "Cherry Blossom" and "Sakura"
A cherry blossom is a flower of many trees of genus Prunus. The most well-known species is the Japanese cherry, Prunus serrulata, which is commonly called Sakura
(桜 or 櫻; さくら).
They are widely distributed, especially in the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere including Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Mainland China, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Myanmar, and Thailand. Along with the chrysanthemum, the cherry blossom is considered the national flower of Japan.
The cherry blossom or Sakura is often said to symbolize "New Beginnings" or spring time. It blooms in the Springtime only in the USA-a popular appearing as beautiful rows of trees line the streets of the nation's capitol: Washington, DC. Once the blooms detach from the stems they will float for a very short time in the spring breeze and are then gone forever.
